Saye & Sele Lodge No 1973

Saye & Sele Lodge is one of the most established in the Province of West Kent. We have been meeting since 1882 and some of our members are very senior within the Province.

We pride ourselves on being a friendly lodge, always willing to greet visitors and making them feel welcome. Masons are welcome to attend our meetings, which are held five times a year at the Westwood Masonic Centre in Belegrove Road, Welling. We meet in March, April, May, June and October. The October meeting is our "installation" meeting, where the new Master of the Lodge is installed for the coming year.

Although our primary purpose is charitable giving by either personal donation or fundraising, we emphasise the social side of our work and try to have fun in the process.

We are fortunate within freemasonry to have a strong cohort of newer members who are working hard to uphold the reputation of the lodge and allow the older members to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labour in making it what it is today.

We can boast some very eminent people who have been members over the years and that proud tradition is upheld to the present time. The Lodge name is taken from the Saye and Sele family, whos family seat was at Belvedere near where the lodge met in the early days.

The Saye and Sele name can be traced back to 1447, when the title of Baron Saye and Sele was created by Letters Patent for James Fiennes for his service during the 100 years war. In 1582, William Fiennes was created the 1st Viscount Saye and Sele, and the family line continues to the present day.

We actively encourage new members and welcome non-masons to our public events, you will find a warm welcome from all of us, young and old.

We hope to see you at one of our events soon, those that are open to non-masons can be found in our Events page.

Our Lodge of Instruction is also extremely active and exisits to teach new Masons about Freemasonry and the work we do. There is always something to learn about why we do things in a certain way, the traditions and customs of Freemasons and also those of the Saye and Sele Lodge in particular.
